Prior to the MAIN program, there will be an opportunity to visit some laboratories and spend an hour or so in your former home Department.

These visits are optional from 16h00 - 16h45.

1. Atmospheric boundary layer wind tunnel - Built Environment
The wind tunnels on the campus of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) facilitate aerodynamic and boundary layer research on static and moving objects, at both small and large scale.

2. SolarBEAT - Built Environment (TNO-SEAC-TU/e)
Solar Building Elements Application Test site, in short SolarBEAT, is the name of the outdoor research facility in the field of BIPV(T). It is a collaboration between TNO, SEAC and the TU/e. From the TU/e side, an active role is played by department Built Environment and Strategic Area Energy.

3. Solar Lab - Applied Physics
With the facilities of the SolarLab, atomic layers can be applied to solar cells, in a quick, controlled manner, making solar cells even more efficient.

4. Fusion Energy Lab - DIFFER
The worldwide energy transition from fossil fuels to sustainable energy requires technology that allows large quantities of clean, sustainable and reliable energy to be generated in compact power stations. Fusion energy could satisfy this demand without the emission of greenhouse gases. Nuclear fusion is the energy source of our sun. At the core of the sun, energy is released when hydrogen atoms react at high temperatures to produce helium. We can and want to make this fusion process safe and clean to use on earth as well.

5. Solar Fuels lab - DIFFER
The Solar Fuels Facility and Instrumentation group facilitates all solar fuels research groups at DIFFER to do their solar fuels research properly. This research is needed for a sustainable society. We ensure the reconstruction of the labs and we develop, operate and maintain the unique devices and diagnostics. These devices are used to answer the questions how to store renewable energy into chemical fuels like hydrogen, methane and hydrocarbons in an efficient way. 

6. Darcy Lab - Mechanical Engineering
The Darcy Lab offers unique MRI facilities specially equipped for researching the properties of technological porous materials.
What is the process which is responsible for decay of concrete structures decay? How can we store solar heat in a thermal battery, so that we use it to warm our homes in winter? What happens in a chemical reactor full of catalysts, and when is liquid steel hot enough to burst a ceramic trough? The answers to all these questions can be found with the globally unique MRI facilities available at the Darcy Lab.

7. Spinning disc reactor - Chemical Engineering and Chemistry
Enables intensified production of especially fast exothermic reactions at high throughput conditions (low residence times).
